Keeping Your Kentucky Medicaid Coverage in 2027
Do you have Medicaid? You may have it and not realize it. If you get health coverage from the state of Kentucky and pay little or nothing each month, then you have Medicaid. Your card may show a plan name or a company logo, but your coverage is still Medicaid. That means these changes apply to you.
Not sure? You can check your eligibility here. If you're a Groups member, ask your Care Team.
Medicaid is changing in 2027, and the new rules may affect how you keep your coverage. You do not need to do anything difficult right now. Here are a few easy steps you can take today to get ready.
1. Update your contact information
Make sure your health plan has your current phone number, mailing address, and email address.
For example, if you recently moved, got a new phone number, or changed your email, let your health plan know right away so you don’t miss anything important.
Update your information online through Kynect at kynect.ky.gov
Keeping your information current helps ensure you receive important updates about your coverage. Many people lose coverage simply because a letter was sent to an old address.
2. Read and respond to every message from your plan
Your health plan may contact you by mail, text, email, or phone. Open all messages and respond by the deadline if you are asked for information.
For example, you might get a letter asking you to confirm your income or household size. Even if nothing has changed, you still need to respond by the deadline or your coverage could be affected.
If you are unsure what a message means or what you need to do, ask your Groups team for help. Don’t throw anything away — bring it with you to your next appointment and we can look at it together.
3. Stay engaged in treatment
Continuing your Groups treatment supports your health and recovery. It also helps keep your care information up to date as Medicaid changes take effect. Being actively engaged in a substance use disorder treatment program may also help you when it’s time to renew your coverage.
4. Visit your primary care provider before the end of the year
If you have a primary care provider, schedule a visit before the end of the year. Make sure your provider has updated information about your health conditions, healthcare needs, and your participation in substance use disorder treatment.
If you don’t have a primary care provider, your Groups team can help you find one. Having a PCP on record can make the renewal process smoother.
5. Groups is here to help you navigate Medicaid changes
Your Groups team can help you:
- Understand communications from your health plan
- Find resources and information about the changes
- Know what steps you may need to take
- Connect you with support if your coverage is affected
