Keeping Your Virginia Medicaid Coverage in 2027

Do you have Medicaid? You may have it and not realize it. If you get health coverage from the state of Virginia and pay little or nothing each month, then you have Medicaid. Your card may show a plan name or a company logo, but your coverage is still Medicaid. That means these changes apply to you.

Medicaid is changing in 2027, and the new rules may affect how you keep your coverage. You do not need to do anything difficult right now. Here are a few easy steps you can take today to get ready.

1. Keep your contact information up to date

Make sure your health plan has your correct phone number, mailing address, and email.

If you recently moved or got a new phone, update your information right away so you do not miss any important news about your coverage.

Many people lose their coverage for one simple reason: a letter was sent to an old address. Do not let that happen to you.

2. Read and answer every letter

Your health plan may reach you by mail, text, email, or phone, so be sure to open all of them. If they ask you for information, answer by the due date they give you.

For example, you might get a letter that asks about your job, your income, or who lives in your household. Answer it even if nothing has changed, because if you do not respond, you could lose your coverage.

3. Stay connected to treatment

Keep coming to Groups, because it is good for your health and your recovery. It also keeps your care records up to date. And being in treatment may help you keep your coverage when it is time to renew.

4. See your doctor before the year ends

If you have a regular doctor, try to see them before the year ends, and make sure they know about your health conditions and your treatment.

If you do not have a doctor, your Groups team can help you find one. Having a regular doctor can make your renewal go more smoothly.
